Set to be held on 10 and 11 May in Melbourne, the 2016 Mental Health in the Workplace Conference will explore current trends and best practice examples to help organisations identify and manage a range of mental health issues in the workplace.
beyondblue CEO Georgie Harman will deliver the keynote address, while beyondblue Workplace Engagement Manager Michael O'Hanlon also joins the speaking line-up as part of a panel, presenting case studies from businesses that have implemented Heads Up in their workplaces.
"With one in five Australian workers experiencing a mental health condition at any given time, this is an issue businesses can't afford to ignore," said Georgie.
"Untreated mental health conditions cost the Australian economy $10.9 billion every year in lost productivity, absenteeism and compensation claims. As well as being part of an employer's duty of care, creating a mentally healthy workplace makes good business sense.
"But most importantly of all, when people enjoy coming to work, feel in control and supported, they give their very best."
An opportunity to share knowledge
Michael said when it comes to workplace mental health, it's important for organisations to share information.
"We often get leaders, business owners and managers wanting to hear from other businesses about what's worked – simple, practical advice that's easy to implement.
"We'll be focusing on business case studies representing different sizes and sectors, so there's something for everyone," he said.
The beyondblue duo join an expert panel of speakers including Professor Allan Fels, Chairman of the National Mental Health Commission; John Canning, Partner at law firm King & Wood Mallesons; Anna-Louise Bouvier, Executive Director, Happy Body at Work; and Mark Dobson, Wellbeing Coordinator, Fire & Rescue NSW.
