My name is Steve McCann, I am the CEO and Managing Director of Lend Lease. Now we've been working closely with beyondblue since 2009.
We recognise that we're not the experts and we don't have all of the answers. And in the last 12 months in particular, we're making a specific effort to try and understand more about the impact on our work environment of mental health issues. There are some studies that have demonstrated a close link between mental health and productivity. A healthy person is a productive person, they're engaged, they're safe, they feel safe, they like they're cared for, they're focused in the job that they do.
We are taking a holistic approach to health and well-being, both physical and mental health, and that involves driving a framework around healthier bodies, healthier minds and creating a healthier culture. We currently do have on-site training and we're in the early stages of developing a framework for mental health first aid certification. And our aim is to have as many people qualified in mental health first aid as we do in physical health first aid.
Business leaders do significantly influence the culture of their organisation. Business leaders need to be role models but they need to also demonstrate an active and long-term commitment to the issue. I see my role as a business leader to help the industry at large understand the importance of this issue and to work with other people within the industry to drive a safer and healthier workplace.
Lend Lease champions Heads Up because it raises community awareness and it encourages business improvement in supporting mental health. And we believe the beyondblue campaign can drive cultural change in society.
